The 2024 AGM, Online Sunday 8th September 2024
The 2024 AGM will take place online on Sunday 8th September 2024, with a presentation at 10am (British Summer Time), and formal business at 11am. The results of the Online competition will announced after the close of AGM business.
The entries for the Online Model Competition can be viewed on this page, voting information will be emailed to members.
The Agenda and Zoom meeting details were published in the 2mm Newsletter for August/September 2024. The Zoom link will be sent out to members by email closer to the date.
Autumn Workshop 12th-13th October 2024
A full weekend workshop supported by 5 Area Groups of the 2mm Scale Assocation (NMAG, NEAG, Midland, L&Y, Mersey & Irwell), with financial support from the Association.
This is a workshop to spend a full weekend actually making stuff: any aspect
of 2mm/N modelling. This is not an exhibition!
It will be a members-only event.
When. Saturday & Sunday, 12th-13th October 2024, doors open 9.00am-6.00pm both days.

The Annual Model Making Competition was held, and we have a
page of photographs of the competition winners.
The Competition Classes are as follows:
- The Groves Trophy for the best scratch/kit built locomotive entered, judged on appearance, running and mechanical excellence.
- The Neil Ballantine Quaich for the best converted or modified proprietory locomotive, judged on appearance and running quality.
- The Dreadnought Trophy for the best coaching stock or non-passenger coaching stock model(s)
- The John Barker Trophy for the best goods or non-revenue rolling stock model(s)
- The Malcolm Stone Award for the best non-rolling stock model(s), preferably with a railway flavour.
- The Mike Bryant Trophy for the best model of a complete train entered on the day. A "complete train" must include its motive power, but there is no minimum or maximum number of vehicles.
- The Steve Sykes Award for the best pre-grouping model(s) in any category. "Pre-grouping" means dating from before the 1923 Grouping (or 1925 in Ireland) and in pre-grouping condition.
- The Members' Choice Trophy for the members' favourite entry of those present on the day
- The Chairman's Trophy for his favourite model entered on the day
- The Apprentice Stakes Trophy may be awarded by the Chairman in respect of any model entered in the "live" competition by a member who has never before won an Association award.
- The Geoff Jones Layout Trophy for the best 2mm layout entered
at the Expo or elsewhere, or otherwise publicised in any media, during
the year.
- The Willis Trophy for the most ingenious and useful development to aid 2mm modelling produced during the year.
- The Geoff Balfour Award to the person who in the Chairman's opinion is considered to have best promoted 2mm modelling through writings in the modelling press or other media during the year.
AGM 2023 - Sun 17th September 2023.
The 2023 AGM was held online, using Zoom, on Sunday 17th September 2023 at 1100BST.
Online model competition results were announced, details of entries and results are available to view.
2mm Scale Association Meeting Sat 14 October 2023 - Aldershot.
On Saturday 14th October there will be a 2mm members only room as part of the Farnham and District Model Railway Exhibition in Aldershot (similar to arrangements used in the past - a 2mm room adjacent to a large model railway exhibition).
The 2mm room will have the Central Shop, and some 2mm layouts and works in progress. Please bring some of your own models to display. The main exhibition includes Drws-y-Nant, Freshwater, and the 2mm SA stand.
The Groves Trophy and Chairman's Trophy were awarded, results and photographs are on the AGM2023 page.
2023 Australasian Supermeet, April 13-15th
Australasian Supermeet is the weekend after Easter and is being hosted
by the South East Queensland Area Group. Dates are
13th-15th April. At this stage 5 beds are available at the location with
the furthest travelled getting dibs. The usual program of dinner on Friday,
workshops on Saturday and flexible Sunday will be followed. More details,
see the February 2023 Newsletter.
Scottish Mini-meet 20th May 2023
A Scottish Mini-meet is to be held on Saturday 20th May 2023 at the Edinburgh Society of Model Engineers at Uphall in West Lothian, between Edinburgh and Glasgow. There will be a number of layouts and demonstration tables. More details will follow in the April 2023 Newsletter
AGM 2022 - Sun 18th September 2022.
The 2022 AGM was held online, using Zoom, on Sunday 18th September.
Annual Model Competitions
The model competition will be a mixture of online and in-person. The Groves Trophy which includes assessing the running qualities of locomotives, and the Members Choice cup will be judged at the North East Area Group's 40th Anniversary event on 10th September. The other competitions will be held online, with voting in a similar for to the last two years.

NEAG (North East Area Group) Saturday 10th September 2022
NEAG are celebrating their 40th Anniversary on Saturday 10th September at St Barnabas Church Hall, Bournmoor, Co Durham.
There will be approximately 10 layouts, plus a number of demonstrations. Trade support from Edward Sissling (Proxxon tools and model supplies) and N Brass etched components.
The annual 2mm Competitions for the Groves Trophy, the Members Choice Cup, and the Chairmans Trophy will be held at this event.

Diamond Jubilee Event - 18th/19th June 2022
The event will feature approximately twenty 2mm Scale layouts including some very large ones, and some which are rarely exhibited. There will be approximately ten smaller layouts constructed as entries for the Diamond Jubilee layout challenge, and a few specialist traders. The chance to see this number of high quality layouts in one place is not likely to happen again this decade.
The event will be open from Saturday 10-5pm, Sunday 10-3.30pm.
Members £5, non-members £8.

How To Build The Association BR 16T Wagon Taster Kit
The Lancashire & Yorkshire Workshop Group (L&YWG) are pleased to introduce the first in what we hope will be a series of live online workshops using the popular Zoom meeting platform. The meeting is open to both members and non-members.
The first topic to be presented will be 'How To Build The Association BR 16T Wagon Taster Kit', a very popular promotional kit available mail order via the 2mm Website or from the 2mm Roadshow at exhibitions up and down the country.

The AGM for 2018 was held on Saturday 6th October 2018 at St. Barnabas Church Hall, Rose Crescent, Bournmoor, Co. Durham, DH4 6EU.
Competition classes are:
- The Groves Trophy - For the best locomotive produced during the year, judged on appearance, its running and mechanical excellence. Awarded to Tim Watson for LNER P2 "Mons Meg".
- The Neil Ballantine Quaich - For the best converted or modified proprietary locomotive. Awarded to Farish Fairburn tank conversion by Nigel Hunt
- The Dreadnaught Trophy - For passenger rolling stock. Awarded to two GWR 70' "South Wales" coaches by John Aldrick
- The John Barker Trophy - For the best rolling stock model. A model may be entered once only. Passenger and Goods vehicles are eligible, but goods stock entries must comprise a minimum of six axles. Awarded to Alisdair Campbell for six Scottish wagons ca. 1911.
- The Malcolm Stone Award - For the best non-rolling stock model, preferably with a railway flavour. Kit conversions are not excluded. Models, which were entered in previous years, may be re-entered, providing they have not won an Association award in the past. Awarded to Stoneswood Mill by Andy Glover.
- The Willis Cup - For the most ingenious and useful development to aid 2mm scale modelling produced during the year. Awarded to Laurie Adams for his track chair system.
- The Steve Sykes Award - For the best pre-grouping (ie. pre-1923)
model (any category: locomotive, rolling stock or scenic/building). Awarded
to three items of Highland Railway rolling stock by Anthony Yeates
The following are not competition classes, but are decided at the AGM.
- The Members' Choice Cup - For the best model judged by a ballot of members attending the AGM. Awarded to Stoneswood Mill by Andy Glover.
- The Chairman's Trophy - Awarded by the Chairman for what is considered the best model never to have previously won an Association prize. Awarded to Lancashire & Yorkshire radial tank by Nick Mitchell.
- The Mike Bryant Cup - This is awarded to the person considered by the Chairman to have given the most outstanding services to the Association during the past year. Awarded to Jim Watt for long service as Data Officer.
- The Geoff Balfour Memorial Award - Given to the person who is considered to have best promoted 2mm scale modelling and the Association through writings in the British modelling press during the past year. Awarded to Nick Mitchell for his "2mmFS in the age of Austerity" article in MRJ.
- The Geoff Jones Layout Trophy - For the best layout (or part) exhibited at an Association event during the current year. Awarded to Nigel Ashton for Llangerisech.

The 2017 AGM was held at the same venue as the Farnham and District Model
Railway Show, on October 14th.
The Annual Model Making Competition
Competition classes are listed below. All competition entries should be on display by 12 midday. In addition to the competition classes, a display table for models is provided; please bring items along for display. All entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form (it would be helpful if this could be completed in advance - a copy can be found here). This will assist the Stewards in logging the entries and assist the Judge and Members by describing the entry in detail and the methods of construction used.
Note - the Dreadnought Trophy will not be awarded in 2017.
