Brafferton
A model by Tony Simms
Brafferton was a real station built on the Pilmoor Boroughbridge & Knaresborough Railway to serve the two small villages of Helperby and Brafferton in North Yorkshire. In reality it was a quite station on a secondary line, the main link being via Ripon, and closed to passenger services in 1950. At the same time the line between Brafferton and Pilmoor was lifted. Brafferton became a terminus for coal traffic and a dumping ground for expired wagons.
The model assumes a more optomistic alternative. The line remains complete through to Pilmoor and the introduction of those new-fangled DMUs make passenger services slightly more feasible. Steam traction still continues on the coal traffic and steam hauled passenger workings (mainly diversions) are seen occasionally.
